When Fish Used to Be Big

The Goliath Grouper (Epinepheulus itajara) can reach lengths of over 8 feet and weigh as much 800 pounds. Finding one of that size is rare now as they have been overfished.  They are currently recognized as an endangered species by IUCN. Above is a “small” adult at 350 lbs caught in 1910 in Juniper Inlet, Florida.
