Monster White Sturgeon Weighs Half Ton

A monster white sturgeon weighing an estimated 1,100 pounds and measuring 12 feet, 4 inches was caught and released on the Fraser River, a British Columbia waterway famous for its big sturgeon…just not this big.

The White Sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, is native to the west coast of North American.  It is not uncommon that the White Surgeon reach weights over 1,000 pounds making it the largest freshwater fish in North America.   The maximum weight published and recorded is 1,785 pounds (810 kg).
